Abstract:
Sankhlaburi, a town along the Thai-Myanmar border, faces significant challenges as displaced children and families seek refuge from Myanmar’s ongoing civil unrest. This study examines the primary issues affecting these vulnerable populations, including limited educational access, inadequate sex education, and citizenship barriers. Although the area has only one high school, three junior high schools, and nine primary schools, the demand for education is overwhelming, leaving many children without schooling. Compounding these issues is the lack of sex education, leading to high rates of teenage pregnancy among girls who are unaware of prenatal care and the importance of hospital births. As a result, many children born at home are unable to obtain Thai citizenship, further marginalizing them. These findings highlight the urgent need for resources and support to address the educational, healthcare, and legal challenges facing displaced individuals in Sankhlaburi, advocating for targeted interventions to support this growing population in border regions.
