Description
Abstract
Learners of Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) have diverse needs, depending on their background and the purpose of learning the language. Foreign workers (TKA) employed in Indonesia require language skills that cover linguistic aspects and those relevant to their work situations and daily life. This study aims to identify the necessary Indonesian language teaching materials for TKA through a direct survey. The research employs a quantitative method by distributing questionnaires to TKA from various employment sectors in Indonesia. The survey results show that TKA requires more practical materials, such as language for workplace communication, understanding of local culture, social themes in Indonesian society, comprehension of Indonesian culture, technology, economics, and politics, as well as specific vocabulary related to their fields of work. Additionally, materials related to communication ethics within the social context of Indonesian society are also considered important. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for developing BIPA teaching materials that better align with the needs of TKA in Indonesia, as well as assist in facilitating their linguistic and cultural adaptation in professional and social environments.
