Speaker
Description
This study aims to explore the use of traditional dances, such as the Ondel-Ondel Dance, as teaching materials in the local culture-based Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) program. The Betawi traditional dance "Ondel-Ondel," a symbol of Jakarta's culture, was selected to introduce rich elements of Indonesian culture into the language learning process. This study employs a qualitative method, including an analysis of teaching materials and in-depth interviews with 20 BIPA teachers and 40 learners across several educational institutions. The results are expected to demonstrate that the integration of the "Ondel-Ondel" dance can enhance students' understanding of local culture, while also increasing their engagement and motivation in language learning. Additionally, culture-based materials are expected to help students comprehend the social and cultural context surrounding the Indonesian language. Integrating Betawi's traditional dance, "Ondel-Ondel," into BIPA materials not only enriches the students' learning experience but also strengthens the connection between language and local culture. This study recommends incorporating a broader range of local cultural elements in the development of BIPA teaching materials and providing additional training for BIPA teachers.
