Trustworthy AI requires more than simply meeting legal requirements. This introductory session explores how compliance with the EU AI Act can serve as a quality assurance framework, ensuring that AI systems consistently perform as intended. Participants will gain an understanding of how legal compliance contributes to building reliable, transparent, and accountable AI solutions.
Presenter Bio:
Alexandros Nousias is a Research Associate in AI Law, Governance, and Ethics at the National Centre for Scientific Research "Demokritos" and Pharos AI Factory. As an ethics educator and policy advisor, he advocates for viewing compliance not as a minimum requirement, but as a foundation for high-quality, trustworthy AI systems.
2. The EU AI Act in Practice: Conformity and Compliance

Session Description:
This session provides a practical overview of the EU AI Act and demonstrates how organizations can prepare for compliance obligations. Participants will be introduced to conformity assessment requirements and gain a working understanding of how to approach AI Act readiness, governance, and regulatory compliance. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions in the dedicated session's Q&A.
Presenter Bio:
Dr. Michael Chatzipanagiotis is Assistant Professor of Private Law at the University of Cyprus, specializing in the legal regulation of Artificial Intelligence. His research spans AI law, consumer protection, governance, and technical standards. He has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals and contributes actively to academic and policy discussions on AI governance across Europe.
3. Privacy and Ethics in the Era of AI

Session Description:
As AI systems become increasingly integrated into society, important questions arise regarding privacy, transparency, accountability, and ethical deployment. This session examines the intersection of data protection and AI regulation under the EU AI Act, covering topics such as data governance, explainability, bias, human oversight, and responsible AI practices. The session concludes with a practical case-study discussion on ethical decision-making and accountability in AI systems.
Presenter Bio:
Vicky Konstantinopoulou is a privacy professional and Deputy Data Protection Officer (DPO) with extensive experience in privacy and compliance matters. She specializes in the ethical implications of artificial intelligence and holds internationally recognized privacy certifications (CIPP/E and CIPM), as well as an MSc in Law and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). She regularly contributes to training and awareness initiatives on privacy, data protection, and responsible AI governance.
