Description

This study aims to determine the interference of first language (L1) and second language processing (L2) in BIPA Intermediate Level learners, as well as its effect on Indonesian language skills. It is known that L1 interference can affect the ability to understand, produce, and process a second language, especially in the phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantic aspects. Therefore, it is also necessary to know the influence on his Indonesian language skills. This study uses a qualitative approach. The instruments used included reading comprehension and listening tests, as well as in-depth interviews. Data collection was obtained from 10-15 BIPA Intermediate Level learners from different countries at one of the universities in Jakarta. From the data collected, it will be known the forms of interference of the first language (L1) and second language processing (L2) in BIPA Intermediate Level learners, as well as their influence on their Indonesian language skills. The results of the study are expected to provide an understanding of the cognitive mechanisms behind L1 interference and second language (L2) processing, as well as its influence on Indonesian language skills. The results of this study are also expected to have positive implications for the teaching strategy of BIPA at the Intermediate Level.
